We did it! Hubs and I went 30 WHOLE days without alcohol, dairy, grains, sugar, soy, artificial sweetener, and legumes. This may seem like a lot to give up, and I assure you, it is. 30 days with no wine. I love wine! Very much. 30 days without cream in my iced coffee. No bread. No pizza. NO CHEESE! No special sugary caramel coffee that I treat myself to every once in a while or my favorite Coke Zero. The list goes on. Many of the foods we love are off limits. But we did it.
Today is Day 31. FINALLY! When I woke up, I weighed in 7 lbs less (I was so nervous to step on the scale). Considering I am only 5 feet tall, I will take it as a win. My clothes feel looser (I should have taken measurements at the beginning) and I feel healthy– if that makes sense. This diet/cleanse/whatever you want to call it was eye-opening if anything. This morning, after taking a few sips of my Dunkin Donuts unsweetened vanilla coffee with cream, the taste in my mouth was just weird. It’s almost like I could taste how processed the vanilla was. I was grossed out. Tomorrow I might just go with regular coffee with cream- not sure yet. The last 30 days I have been using unsweetened almond milk or Nutpods in my coffee…and honestly, I may still use those moving forward.
After work, I poured a glass of wine. It tasted super sweet. But it was delicious. Although I wanted another glass, I thought of all of the hard work I have put in over the last 30 days and decided to put the wine away. I don’t need it (tonight, anyway). I pretty much stayed Whole30 compliant the whole day and added dairy- the cream and then cheese, which was SO SO GOOD. Damn, I missed cheese.
So to sum up my experience… It was much needed. It was HARD. It was a true test and made me crazy. Just ask some people close to me about my hysterical crying breakdown mid-way through. But if I can do it, so can you. If you want. It’s a detox, cleanse, and very eye-opening. Hopefully, I will carry some of the tips and lessons learned with me moving forward. Did you know sugar is in most bacon? Did you know soy is in pretty much anything? The main thing I learned- READ LABELS. Do it…you will be amazed. I plan on Whole30-ing it again in February & if anyone is interested in joining me, send me a message.
PS-Thank you to all of my fam, friends & internet pals who sent me positive notes & pushed me to keep going! Peer pressure could have easily caused me to fail, and I am truly thankful for all of the support!
