Throughout the last year or so, I have heard the show “Jane the Virgin” mentioned numerous times. Honestly, I immediately thought that I was too old for the show and it would be too corny for me. The fact that it is on the CW turned me off too….their shows don’t often appeal to me. Raunchy R rated shows tend to be my go-to. But I got sucked in, thanks to one of my BFF Netflix. The ad kept popping up on the home screen and I couldn’t escape it. One click was all I needed to be freaking hooked. I mean hooked. Season 1 is 22 40-something minute episodes and I watched every single one in the last few weeks. Season 2 is almost caught up… not an easy task with a job, kids and hubby!
Jane, played by Gina Rodriguez, is adorable. And amusing. And SO likable. Even if she made a choice I didn’t agree with, I just could not be mad. Her mother on the show, Xiomara aka Xo (Andrea Navedo) is the wild one, and grandmother Alba (Ivonne Coll) is just precious and a motherly figure. My favorite character – who is OUTRAGEOUS- is Rogelio (Jaime Camil), Jane’s dad- a soap star who is so into himself it caught me LOL’ing quite a few times. Her love life is rather complicated between ex Michael (Brett Dier) and baby dad Rafael (Justin Baldoni) and the story lines keep me captivated. Petra (Yael Grobglas) is Rafael’s ex and she is one that you just LOVE to hate.
If you are looking for a new show to binge on, try this out. I guarantee it’s sweet, funny, and really hits on a lot of topics we deal with in real life. You will want to root for Jane. I don’t want to spoil anything so this is all for now. If you decide to watch- let me know what you think!
